WATER WELL SYSTEM IN ALCOBA
Problem
The community of Alcoba, consisting of approximately 60 families, in completely dependent upon a small stream for its drinking water, which must be hand-carried over steep terrain by women and children several times per day. This water can be contaminated with inorganic matter and organic pathogens, and water flow reduces to a trickle due to overuse.
Background
A 800-1000 ft well is in planning by a Canadian non-profit, Pozos de Esperanza (Wells of Hope) to support the communities of Alcoba and nearby Lazareto. However, a water storage tank and necessary supply and distribution lines are not within the scope of their effort. A topographical survey, distribution map and material estimates are prerequisites as part of an effort to convince the municipal government to invest in and provide the necessary materials (labor will be provided by the communities benefiting from the well).
Proposed Steps(s):
Adelante Juntos has provided the funds to conduct the topographic survey, to develop a distribution map and to generate material estimates.
Support the community leadership in generating the necessary documents necessary to solicit support from the municipal government.
Maintain coordination with Pozos de Esperanza (Wells for Hope) in development of the water system
