Access to Clean Drinking Water

Problem:

Clean water can be a struggle for families in Guatemala to obtain. Many families retrieve water from streams and creeks. These water sources may contain dangerous bacteria that cause diseases such as cholera and dysentary. The scarcity of safe water has caused widespread stomach sickness among the residents. Water from local sources is often contaminated by wildlife, making it dangerous to consume. The potentially contaminated water leaves the community with no choice but to continue a cycle of sickness and despair.  Diarrhea and other gastrointestinal illnesses are a leading cause of mortality and morbidity in children
